CEPANI/CEPINA, Belgium’s main arbitration centre for business disputes, has adopted new Rules of Arbitration that will apply to all arbitration proceedings filed with CEPANI after 1 January 2013.

The new Rules aim to adapt and modernize the rules applicable to CEPANI/CEPINA arbitrations.

Amongst the innovations are new rules on multi-party and multi-contract arbitrations, challenges to the arbitrators,  provisional measures, electronic communications as well as the correction and interpretation of the Award.

Other major changes incluse new rules on confidentiality, applicable rules of procedure and the liability of the arbitrators.

The new Rules are to be read in conjunction with the new Belgian Law on arbitration procedural rules, which will enter into effect in September 2013 – see Belgium – New Law on Procedural Rules for Arbitration (http://lgl.kn/6db35).

The New Rules are available in English, French and Dutch on the CEPANI website – www.cepani.be
